Discover the Gundam TCG in Auckland at Game Roost
Gundam is a fast-paced TCG by Bandai, built around the mobile suits, pilots, and factions of the Gundam universe. You construct a 50-card main deck alongside a separate 10-card resource deck, then go head-to-head to destroy your opponent’s Base, break through six shields, and land a finishing blow.
What makes it click is the Pilot pairing system. Attach the right Pilot to the right Unit, meet the Link conditions, and your mobile suit can attack the turn it deploys, which changes the tempo of a game completely. Add in Burst effects that fire off when your shields get destroyed, and even losing ground can set up a comeback.
Bandai built a free teaching app that walks you through all of this, so you can learn before you even open a pack. We’ve been running Gundam TCG in Auckland since launch, and the local scene is growing week by week. If you want somewhere to play, trade, and learn, you’ve found it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start playing the Gundam TCG?
All you need is a Starter Deck—a ready-to-play 50-card main deck, a 10-card resource deck, tokens, and a rules reference. Once you’ve got the basics down, booster packs come into the picture, allowing you to customise your deck, discover new mobile suits, and chase those alternate-art cards that look absolutely unreal in foil.
We also sell Gundam card game singles through Fetch TCG so that you can grab the extra cards your deck needs.
Are there different formats in the Gundam TCG?
Yes—and it’s one of the things that keeps the game fresh, no matter how many times you play! Standard 1v1 is where most people start: two players, 50-card decks, first to knock out all six shields and land a finishing blow wins.
While 1v1 is the core format, the game can support Team Battle (2v2), where you share a shield area with your partner, and Battle Royale for three or more players with multiple win conditions, including “last pilot standing” and “first to eliminate”
Does your store host Gundam card game events in Auckland?
We do! And the community here has grown rapidly since the game launched. Game Roost runs Gundam Hobby Days (Arsenal) every Wednesday (6:30 PM) and Saturday (3:30 PM). You can also check out the events page to see any upcoming tournaments for Gundam TCG in Auckland. As a Bandai Gold-ranked Organised Play Store, we regularly host Newtype Mission Challenges and other competitive events that are offered at select stores, giving players in Auckland a chance to join in on some of the special tournaments available.
Even outside of scheduled events, our tables are open for walk-in games. Bring your deck and play! That’s the whole point of our space.
Do you stock other trading cards and games?
We’re much more than your spot for the Gundam card game. We’re a known Magic: The Gathering store for sealed product and singles, a place for you to shop the One Piece card game, Pokémon TCG, Riftbound League of Legends, and we’re the go-to spot for a Warhammer 40k starter set if miniature wargaming is more your thing.
We carry a wide range of trading card games and tabletop titles, so there’s always something new to discover at Game Roost.
